The article considers the concept of false cognates, the translation of which may cause certain difficulties associated with false identification of words in the native and foreign languages. The aim of this work is to determine the types of false cognates and to identify the role of context when working with this linguistic phenomenon. The analysis showed that the environment of a word is of great importance when choosing a correct translation option. In conclusion, it was stated that the study of false cognates is of certain interest and will help to minimize difficulties in their translation.
