The relevance of the study lies in the fact that the concept of a controlling person is actively used in modern Russian civil legislation to address various issues: from regulating and challenging transactions concluded under the influence of a controlling person, to bringing him to justice. The article reflects the variety of approaches to the definition of a controlling person, demonstrated by Russian legislation. The conclusion is made about the need to unify the concept under study.
